Colorado defeats anti-immigration measures

You know that a year ago Arizona passed one of the toughest immigration law bills in the country, some say the toughest. Well there has been a backlash against that type of legislation in Colorado. In February of 2011 Colorado State defeated a measure that was pretty much the same thing as Arizona’s bill. The bill (SB-54) would have given police the right to arrest anyone whom they believed to be an undocumented alien. This raises the question as to how the police would make such a determination.

Colorado has its share of undocumented workers, and legislators have grappled with how to tackle the issue. The reality is that there are simply too many undocumented aliens in Colorado to arrest all of them, or anything more than a small percentage. The Colorado Senate finally decided to not follow Arizona’s example and defeated the measure.
